Emily Saliers was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and moved to Atlanta with her family while in elementary school. Like her fellow Indigo Girl Amy Ray, Emily began playing guitar at an early age. Although they had known each other for several years, Emily and Amy did not begin playing together until high school; their partnership has lasted until the present day. Amy and Emily adopted the name "Indigo Girls" in 1985. They were signed to Epic Records in 1988 and their major albums to date are: "Strange Fire" (independely released in 1987 and re-released by Epic in 1989), "Indigo Girls" (1989), "Nomads*Indians*Saints" (1990), "Rites of Passage" (1992), "Swamp Ophelia" (1994), "1200 Curfews" (1995) and "Shaming of the Sun" (1997). The album "Indigo Girls" won the Grammy Award for "Best Contemporary Folk Recording" in 1989. Indigo Girls appear in the movie "Boys on the Side" as a bar band in Tucson, Arizona; this is their only film appearance to date.

On October 20, 2013, Emily Shah, an 18-year-old resident of Edison, New Jersey won the title of Miss New Jersey USA 2014 and youngest contestant. Emily began intense ballet training at American Repertory's Princeton Ballet and at the age of 13 Emily took several acting courses including Weist-Barron, New York Film Academy, Lee Strasberg's Institute of Film and Theater New York and Los Angeles, and Madumati's Dance & Acting Academy in Hindi for Bollywood. Emily managed her high school's baseball team for three years. Emily has also committed much time into charity including with the Kessler Foundation, Make-a-Wish, Joyful Heart, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Susan G Koman, Becca's Closet, Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation, End Polio with Rotary / Ambassador to UNICEF and Autism Awareness just to name a few. Emily assisted the stunt director on Captain America 2 and an assistant job to Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys, assistant the stunt team on "Run all Night" and "Fast & Furious 7". She wanted to learn the techniques behind the camera before she gets in front of the camera. It is her desire to work in action films and her dream job would to become a "James Bond Girl" or even the next "Agent Salt". Speaking Hindi and Gujarati fluently, Shah wouldn't mind having a crossover career in Hollywood and Bollywood. 2016 includes as lead actor for the music video with singer Mickey Singh titled "Phone" which exceeds 3M viewership in 2 weeks of its release and her Dec 2016 Music Video titled "Hold Me".
