As a sophomore at the University of Akron, he left town to come to Los Angeles with his band, Revelation Funk. The band broke up shortly after arriving in L.A. Shortly afterward, Ingram started working with Ray Charles as a piano player. After Quincy Jones heard James Ingram's voice on "Just Once," he invited Ingram to sing on his album. James originally didn't think his voice was good enough to be a lead vocal. He won a Grammy award for best R&B vocal performance for his work on Jones' album, "The Dude." James Ivory
The main part of his few movies were filmed in the quarter of a century in which he worked closely together with the Indian producer Ismail Merchant and the German writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. His first films are all set in India and are very much influenced by the style of Satyajit Ray and Jean Renoir. After this period, he filmed three stories in New York and then dedicated his work to the great works of the English literature which made him internationally famous. James J. Cox was born in Massapequa Park, NY on November 14. He attended Catholic elementary school and High School on Long Island and then went to college in Upstate NY where he first got a taste for acting with the Schenectady Community Theater. After leaving college, James joined the Navy to see the world. Twenty years later after sailing every one of the seven seas and seeing action in the Gulf War, he retired from the Navy and returned to the U.S. Settling in Pasadena, CA, James began writing and doing Stand-Up comedy before returning to his passion, acting for the stage, TV and film. James is a proud member of Theatre West as well as SAG/AFTRA.
