Early on Ray couldn't be any further from an acting career , joining the Royal Navy and qualifying as a elite special forces Clearance Diver , he served in both Northern Ireland and the Falklands war , where he was part of an elite team of deep saturation divers to recover top secret and sensitive information from the recently sunken destroyer HMS Coventry. Personally, strapping explosives to the armed, not launched SeaDart missile rendering the missile safe. He then left for the oil and gas industry of Aberdeen and was soon an efficient part of the deep diving saturation team on the DSV Stadive . Ray decided to leave the oil industry and return to Australia , where he had spent his childhood from 5 to 12 years of age growing up , and found the love of the ocean. After the death of his mother , he went in search of life's answers to its meaning and found himself at the Brisbane school of philosophy , his spirit of philosophical inquiry was sparked as a student and after 11 years became a tutor, the school ethos was you are only limited by your ideas of who you think you are , and with that in mind , Ray tentatively volunteered for a Shakespeare production of "Loves, Labor's Lost " playing Costard , and Bottom in " A Midsummer Nights Dream " plus other stage plays.
